Rams pin down leading stars

News of Derby County’s key players signing new contracts has flooded in over the past couple of weeks. Will Hughes, Craig Bryson, Craig Forsyth, Jake Buxton and Jeff Hendrick have all signed new deals. Wonderful.

All, especially Bryson after all the interest and panic surrounding an alleged contract clause, send out a huge message; the Rams are coming. Not only that, but also the instant increase in value this brings has been great.

Now it must be time to expect some movement on players coming into the club. A right-back is widely accepted among fans as a priority. Yes it is, but I also firmly believe an alternative to Chris Martin is an absolute must. Conor Sammon is still at the club – not for me, it just hasn’t worked out. When Martin isn’t in the Derby side, things aren’t the same.

George Thorne isn’t at Pride Park yet. That really has dragged on. If the West Brom midfielder doesn’t arrive, another player would be pivotal to fill that roll as competition to John Eustace.

Bryson seems like a new signing,I thought he was gone for sure. Great efforts from the club to convince him to stay. Best midfield in the league by far. If Thorne doesnt sign then Hendrick into that role otherwise how do you fit both Bryson and Hughes into the team?

I’m not sure about Hendrick there. He does have the muscle but hasn’t performed well when tested there but of course he cpuld be coached into it.

Always a difficult one to fit everyone in the midfield. Clough struggled. McClaren has mostly got it right, resulting in one on the bench unfortunately.
