Latest Rams Transfer Round-Up (16/8/12) – Trialists, Sammon, Freeman and Matlock Highlights

A few transfer stories surrounding The Rams.

Derby County haven’t ruled out bringing in a striker before Saturday & have spoken to Wigan about striker Conor Sammon.

“We have made no secret of the fact we would like to bring at least one (striker) in to help us out, so we will keep pursuing that and see if we can get one in before the weekend. There are a few names on the list, either permanent or loans, so we are doing our best. We like Conor Sammon, even going back 18 months, but until a deal gets done then we do not like talking too much about other team’s players.” Rams boss Nigel Clough said.

Reports this week have suggested Derby have made a £1.2million bid and rumours say that he’s had a medical at Derby.

The former Kilmarnock striker has scored 1 goal in 34 games for Wigan since signing for the Premier League side in January 2011, when The Rams also tried the sign the 25 year old.

The Rams are keen in signing Kieron Freeman from local rivals Nottingham Forest, Sky sports say Derby are finalising a deal. Some rumours say he will have a medical at Derby on Friday.

Nigel Clough said “He had a very good loan spell at Notts County last season. He can cover us at right-back or left-back, and is another one we think will improve us.”

The 20 year old full-back has made it clear he wants to leave Forest this summer, Notts County are a club have been thought to be interested. The Welsh under-21 international spent two loans spells away from the City Ground last season to help gain experience. Mansfield and Notts County took him on loan, making him the first to play for the three professional Nottinghamshire clubs  in consecutive competitive games and the youngest to have played for all three clubs. He has played twice for Forest’s first team, one a League Cup tie in 2010 and the second in a FA Cup tie in 2011.

19 year old Derby trialist Marc McNulty played for a Rams XI at Matlock last night. The Derby side won 2-1 with McNulty getting a goal and looking lively in the game. The Scottish striker currently plays for Livingston in the Scottish Football League First Division. “Ideally, we would like a better game to have a look at him but he has done well in training the last couple of days” Rams boss Nigel Clough said. The Livingstone striker scored 13 goals in 35 games last season and was linked with a move to League One Sheffield United back in May.

Another trialist ,Roope Riski, got the other goal for The Rams. Roope Riski is a Finnish striker playing for Italian Serie A club Cesena. The 20 year old has represented his country, Finland, at under-19 and under-21 level. The Fin also played in the friendly defeat to Chesterfield last week.

Three other trialists in Valentin Gjokaj, Danny Barrera and Tom Reilly also played in the friendly last night. Tom Reilly is an American centre half.

Valentin Gjokaj is a Swiss central defender, who has already played in a few other pre-season games for Derby and is close to signing a contract.

Danny Barrera is a 22 year old midfielder player currently playing for Atlanta Silverbacks in the North American Soccer League and has represented USA at under-18 and under-17 level. Barrera has played in a couple of other friendlies for The Rams this summer during his trial period.
