Derby County Transfer News (11/7/12)

Here are today’s transfer stories surrounding The Rams.

Steve Davies

Blackburn are in talks with Steve Davies as they look to bring the 24 year old striker to Ewood Park. Having  turned down the offer of a contract extension at Derby due to family reasons he has been expected to join a club ‘down south’ as he put it. Ipswich are keen on bringing the striker to Portman Road to reunite with Paul Jewell but Blackburn have identified him as somebody they’d like to snap up and are currently in talks.

Paul Coutts

‘Derby boss Nigel Clough has made a 150k bid for Preston’s midfield outcast Paul Coutts. The Scot, 23, has been frozen out by boss Graham Westley in a Deepdale revolution’ The Daily Mirror reported. The former Peterborough midfielder won promotion in his first season at London Road, quickly establishing himself in the team after a move from Highland League side Cove Rangers. Coutts signed a deal with Preston North End in January 2010 when former Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson, who worked with Coutts at Peterborough, was in charge at Deepdale. The central midfielder has made nearly 80 appearances since joining the Lancashire outfit. Remember this is the Mirror that have reported this and they aren’t exactly know for getting things spot on, particularly with Derby!

Kelvin Mellor

Reports say Kelvin Mellor won’t be coming to Derby now despite The Rams offering a three-year deal. It appears he will opt to stay at Crewe after their third improved offer. Crewe boss Steve Davis is convinced Mellor’s career would develop better if he stays put. Mellor is currently on holiday recovering from a minor operation. “The attraction of a Championship club might not suit him. It might not be the right club for him at this particular time of his career when he still has the chance to develop himself” Davis said. The Rams see him as young player who has the potential to develop.

Connor Sammon

Nigel Clough wanting Wigan striker Conor Sammon on a season’s loan has been widely reported over the past few days.
