Aidy Bothroyd believes the Cobblers will be in a ‘very good position’ should Michael Jacobs’ proposed transfer from the club be settled by a tribunal. Jacobs has formally turned down the club’s offer of a contract and is almost certain to leave Sixfields this summer, although he would have to return to pre-season training with the club on a week-to-week deal if he has not signed elsewhere by the time that begins next month. He can sign for whoever he wants to on the 1st July, Northampton cannot stop that, however who he signs for has to either agree a fee or it goes to tribunal to recompense the investment by Northampton. However the FA would probably suspend the registration of the player until it was sorted. Northampton are confident of securing a good fee should this matter go to a tribunal.
