A look at Rams new signing Tom Naylor

20 year old defender Tom Naylor signs for the Rams on a initial 6 week loan with a view to a permanant deal in January from Blue Square Premier side Mansfield Town.

Here is a short look at the latest addition to the DCFC squad…

Naylor was originally a midfielder but now plays at central defence or right back. He started his career with Mansfield and signed his first professional contract in 2009. He made his debut for the Stags in the penultimate game of the 2008/2009 season against Altrincham. He spent the 2009/2010 season on loan at Belper Town and was awarded player of the season. In October 2010 he was loaned to Alfreton Town where he played just a few games before returning to Field Mill. The 6ft 2 in tall defender made 17 league appearances (16 starts and 1 sub appearance) last season for Mansfield and helped them to a 13th placed finish in the 5th tier of English football. In May this year Mansfield reached the final of the FA Trophy and lost to Darlington to a last minute of extra time goal. Naylor played the full game at Wembley. So far this season Tom Naylor has made 5 appearances for the Stags and been sent off twice. He has spent time on trial at Derby, Burnley and Fulham. It was reported that Mansfield rejected  a bid from Charlton in August. In his week-long trial at Derby County he appeared in the Reserves’ 6-1 win over Walsall. He played in the Rams reserves’ draw at Sheffield United starring alongside fresh from injury Shaun Barker. Nigel Clough ,in his time at Derby, has made some good finds from lower leagues such as Brayford, Bailey, B.Davies and Moxey. So hopefully Naylor can follow in their footsteps.

Let’s hope he can make the step up to the Championship.
